The Long Yellow Skirt
Being a chronic undecided person I often find myself asking for second opinions to whoever I might find around. Indecision? Lack of self-confidence? Maybe. The same obviously happens when I have to decide how to pair clothes inside my closet. Don’t mean to sound too tragic, all I am saying is these kinds of dilemmas are part of the micro issues
women have to face on a daily basis.
The problem for me this time was creating a look with this yellow maxi skirt. The opening on the side is what made me want to get it in the first place, but its color put me in front of big indecision. I could either wear it with a black cropped top or create a more summerish look by pairing it with something more colorful. I reach for my iPhone and take pictures of myself in front of the mirror wearing both outfits and immediately Whatsup my Mom back in Italy who has luckily finally managed to get a smartphone and get up to date with the rest of the 21st-century community.
“Where do you think you are going with that short tee?! It shows your belly hun!” she messages me in an alarming way right after she sees the first picture I send herewith my black cropped top on. Maybe asking my mom for advice knowing she belongs two generations before mine wasn’t really a smart idea…
“Mom, calm down. I am sending over a second option. Tell me if you like it better this way. Ah, by the way, that tee is called a cropped top, and they are super cool right now, even if they make you look like a modern version of Britney Spears from the Baby One More Time days!”. After having updated my mom on the last trends, she finally gives me her blessing.
And so, here are today’s outfit pictures. What about you? Who do you consult when totally undecided about something? If “anyone who’s around” is your answer then we are probably very, very similar to one another!
Essendo un’indecisa cronica mi ritrovo più’ spesso di quanto non vorrei a chiedere secondi pareri a chiunque mi capiti a tiro. Indecisione? Poca sicurezza di me stessa? Forse. Lo stesso vale soprattutto quando devo decidere in quale modo indossare i capi all’interno del mio armadio. Non si tratta di certo di un problema per l’umanità’ sia chiaro, ciò non toglie che sia comunque uno tra i (tanti) dilemmi femminili con il quale, prima o poi, ognuna di noi deve fare i conti.
La mia indecisione questa volta era legata al come abbinare questa maxi gonna gialla. Lo spacco laterale mi aveva invogliata a prenderla, ma il colore mi poneva davanti a una scelta: o abbinarla al nero o creare un look estivo colorato. Prendo il mio iphone e mi fotografo nelle due versioni inviando tutto a mia madre su whatsup, che solo di recente si e’ tecnologizzata con uno smart-phone arrivando cosi anche lei al 21esimo secolo come tutti noi.
“Dove vai con quella maglietta nera?! Cami non mi piace…Non vedi che hai tutta la pancia di fuori?!” mi scrive mia madre con tono allarmato dopo aver ricevuto la foto del mio primo abbinamento. Per un attimo mi rendo conto che chiedere consiglio a tua madre che appartiene a due generazioni prima della tua può avere le sue limitazioni.
“Mamma, tranquillizzati, ora ti mando anche una seconda opzione, dimmi se ti piace di più. Ah, e per la cronaca, la maglietta corta dicesi cropped top, adesso sono cool e vanno di moda, pancia scoperta compresa”
Dopo aver aggiornato mia madre sulle ultime tendenze, le mando la foto del secondo abbinamento. Questo le piace decisamente di più e mi da quindi la sua benedizione…
