It's Almost Christmas Time

A look for brunch in Gramercy Park with my cousins from Italy.

This was their first time ever in New York, and just like it happened to me the city completely charmed them.

There is no “limbo” feelings when it comes to New York: you either hate it or you love it. And if you do happen to love it, it’s a crazy and unconditional love.

Looking at them this past week made me think about my first time here in the city. At that time, neither Mattia nor I were working, but for our first year anniversary, we promised each other we would have gone on a trip to the Big Apple.

So, in December 2006, we bought a last-minute flight and booked a room at a BestWestern hotel with a terrible mattress to sleep on and an even worse breakfast to eat in the morning. But it was all good.

All that mattered was being together in this magical city. And our vacation turned out to be magical indeed. When I stop and look at it I still feel the exact same things I felt during those days…and with the right company, the most magical place on earth becomes simply perfect.

Questa e’ stata la loro prima volta a New York e come accadde anche a me la citta’ li ha completamente stregati.

Non ci sono sentimenti da “limbo” quando si tratta di New York: o la odi, o la ami. E se lo fai, e’ alla follia.

Vedere loro questa settimana ha fatto ripensare a me e alla mia “prima volta”. A quel tempo ne io ne Mattia lavoravamo, ma per il nostro primo anno insieme ci eravamo ripromessi di andarci insieme. E cosi’ prendemmo un volo last minute ed il 3 dicembre del 2006 eravamo in un BestWestern dove le camere avevano letti con materasso in gomma piuma che ti risucchiavano durante il sonno e la colazione era un tripudio di cose preconfezionate e dal sapore artificiale. Ma andava bene cosi’.

Cio’ che contava era essere li ed esserci insieme. Quando a volte mi soffermo a guardarla le sensazioni sono sempre le stesse di quei giorni. Con la giusta compagnia poi il piu’ magico dei posti diventa semplicemente perfetto.
